Become Unstoppable by Adding This One Simple Hack to Your Morning Routine

I love little life hacks. Those little things or actions that are quick and simple to do yet their effects accumulate and snowball into something that pays off 10 fold.

I’ve been implementing this hack for a while now and have been seeing positive benefits, most notably I notice a better mood and heightened energy during my day.

So what is this little magical hack?

It’s simple.

Drink at least 500ml (18 ounces) of water as soon as you wake up in the morning. And I mean first thing. Not at breakfast or on your way to work or at the gym, I mean as soon as you get up and on an empty stomach.

If you’re not already doing this then I highly recommend you give this a go as it has many positives that will impact your day for the better.

1. Replenishes the Water Your Body Needs

Your body is made up of mostly water, it craves water to handle basic functions on a cellular level. If you think about it, when you go to sleep at night to the moment you wake up your body becomes majorly dehydrated. Let’s say you go to bed at 10pm and wake up at 6 am, that’s 8 hours where your body has not taken in any fluid.

Imagine a normal day where you get up at 8am have a drink then you drink nothing until 4pm, this appears quite absurd right? This is literally the same thing your body undergoes every night. This is why it’s important to give your body a decent amount of water to replenish it’s reserves once you wake up. And as a graphic guide, you’ll likely have noticed how your urine is at it’s most concentrated in the morning by observing it’s colour. Ideally you want the colour to be clear. Using this measure has allowed me to find the right amount of water for me to drink every morning.

2. Affects Your Appetite

Drinking a sizeable portion of water in the morning will help you to make better diet decisions during your day. First of all drinking water on an empty stomach kick starts your metabolism, raising your calorific burn throughout the day.

Not only that, but drinking water decreases your overall desire for food as it gives you a feeling of fullness. This is one reason why experts say that drinking water helps with weight loss. Often times you aren’t really hungry, it’s that you’re actually thirsty! What I’ve learnt is that if I am feeling hungry I’ll go drink some water. Usually the hunger does subside. If it doesn’t then I am genuinely hungry.

3. You Start Your Day Off Mentally Sharper

Similar to your body, your brain is largely made up of water. When you drink water early you give your brain the water it needs to function.

Since i’ve upped my water intake I have noticed that I am mentally sharper and make better decisions. By drinking enough water early, you set yourself up for a day of greater clarity.

4. Removes Toxins

The benefits of water are numerous and there are too many to go into detail. Drinking water flushes our toxins, makes you feel healthier and of course contributes to greater looking skin.

5. Start Your Day Feeling Refreshed

Drinking a sizeable amount of water first thing is the perfect way to send a message to your body that you are ready to get your day started. As discussed before it kick starts the metabolism process but it also wakes you up and snaps you out of tiredness.

Start This Habit As Soon As You Can

If you start this habit you’ll start seeing the benefits. It is often the case that you’ll find that you want to drink more than the 500ml you initially set out. Personally I find that 500ml isn’t enough for me to notice the benefits so I drink considerably more. However if you’ve never tried this before then 500ml is a good starting point. You may find that even 500ml is too much. Don’t worry about it, you can start smaller. Drinking some water is better than nothing. Over time you can work your way up.

Make It Easy to Maintain Your New Habit

As is the case of developing any positive habit there is always resistance no matter how simple the new habit is. You may find yourself forgetting to drink the water or your brain will tell you that it’s fine to drink it later on in the day.

Let’s face it, you have to create a path of least resistance otherwise you won’t be drinking that 500ml of water every morning. So you must prepare the water the night before!

Put it in a flask by your bed so the first thing you do when you wake up is see the flask and drink it!

Maybe your someone who finds water boring and therefore you think you don’t have to try this out? That’s still not a valid excuse! In fact I’ve been experimenting with adding a slice of lemon to my water to make delicious lemon water. Don’t like lemon try making cucumber water. It really is up to you!

Give it 30 days

Try this out for 30 days. I’m sure you will notice a difference. You’ll find that your body will be happier and will reward you with a better mood and greater energy throughout the day.
